Everybody feels exhausted and tired from the daily routine and needs a break from time to

difficult to choose from. There are beautiful hill-stations, laced with greenary, there are golden

hill stations near Pune:
Lonawala- This is a mesmerizing place situated in the Pune district. It is located 67 K.M
from Pune, 95 K.m from Mumbai and 282 K.m from Aurangabad. This is very popular
honeymoon destination for the couples from Pune and Mumbai. It is located in the
Sahyadri mountain range which separates the Konkan coast from the Deccan plateau.
There are many places to visit in this beautiful hill station. Lohgahd Fort, Karla caves and
Rajmachi point are to name the few. The name Lonawala is derived from the Sanskrit
word ’Lonavali’ which means a chain or line of caves. Since the place is dotted with many
caves hence the name. There are many good 3 star and 4 star resorts available for your
memorable stay at this place.
Mahabaleshwar- This hill station is located in the Satara district of Maharashtra. It is at
a distance of 123 K.m from Pune. Being in proximity of Mumbai, many hit Bollywood
films have been shot here. It is located in the Western ghats. It is actually the hamlet of
three villages. Arthur’s seat, Lingmala waterfall and Pratapgarh fort are most visited
places of the Mahabaleshwar tour package. This place is also popular for the best and
very natural honey that one gets here. From Mahabaleshwar, the famous Krishna river
originates which spans the 4 important Southern states viz: Maharashtra, Karnataka,
Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. Mahabaleshwar is called queen of hill stations in
Panchgani – It is located 104 k.m from Pune and comes under the municipal corporation
of Satara. This hill station consists of many places of interest. On its east, dams like
Nagewadi, Bavdhan and Wai are situated. Panchgani is surrounded by five hills. Some
mythology also goes around this place. According to a legend, Pandavas spent some
time in Panchgani during their ‘Agyatwaas’ period. Some sight-seeing points are Table
land, Parsi point, Devi’s kitchen, Kamalgard fort, Rajpuri caves, sydney point and Mapro
Gardens. At Mapro gardens, one can get many unique flavors of squashes, juices, jams ,
jellies and fruit crushes.
Matheran – This is a pretty hill station in the Raigahd district of Maharashtra. It is
located at a distance of 122 K.m from Pune. It is situated at an altitude of 800 m on the
Western ghats of India. It is very sought-after monsoon getaways of Maharashtra.
Many couples and families come to spend their weekends at Matheran. It is one of the
smallest hill stations of Maharashtra. Matheran is completely pollution free hill station.
It is the first automobile free hill station of Maharashtra. No private automobile is
allowed here. The tourists attractions in Matheran include Porcupine point, Panorama
Point, Echo point, King George point, charlotte lake, monkey point, Panthers caves,
Paymasters park, Rambaug point, Heart point and many more.
